Album reviews Music

V.I.C.

Rating: N

When someone says, “Try this if you like Soulja Boy,” it’s kind of like saying “Man, if you dug that first venereal disease, wait till you get a load of this awesome chlamydia.” And just like the work of the aforementioned rapper, Beast is pure gimmick with no substance.

Much less pop and way more raunchy than Soulja Boy’s stuff, the album is bursting at the seams with throwaway beats and production that desperately vies (and fails) for mainstream hit status. V.I.C. fails completely to say anything even remotely interesting, opting instead to drop a handful of skits where he plays Steve Irwin with a bad accent commenting on the mating rituals of animals (fucking surreal). Elsewhere, he sings the the old Batman TV show theme, a feat that hovers somewhere between fascinatingly stupid and unbelievably annoying. Just plain terrible.
