Video premiere: Die Young by the Cola Heads

Toronto’s the Cola Heads formed as 12-year-olds in 1997, playing punk shows at now defunct venues like Club Shanghai on Spadina and Who’s Emma? in Kensington Market.

Like most people’s first bands, they broke up. But in 2013, after some prodding from singer/guitarist Julian Swift’s brother Nick Sewell (Biblical, The Illuminati), they got back together and started playing from their old repertoire, discovering that their 90s punk goodness never went out of style.

“Through people Liam [Jaeger, drummer] and I grew up with in the rock ‘n’ roll scene, guys like you and Collective and Embrace and people who knew us when we were little, we’ve gotten thrown on bills opening up for Pennywise at Danforth Music Hall,” Swift says. “We played in front of like 2000 people and we’re looking at each other, especially Liam and I – these were the bands we were going to see when we were 12 – and we’re just like, ‘Holy shit, this is the definition of full circle.'”

So they’re taking it seriously now, with a recently released 7″ with all new tracks, including single Die Young. We’re very happy to premiere the new music video for the party anthem, which transports you to a good ol’ sweaty house show:
