From winning silver to drinking maple syrup, Canadians are commending this Olympic weightlifter for proving just how Canadian she is.

On Thursday, Maude Charron secured a silver medal in the women’s 59 kg class at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Canadians applauded the 31-year-old weightlifter for her performance, but one moment between sets made them admire the athlete even more.

“True Canadian! LETS GO!!!” one X user said.

“Most Canadian thing ever,” another user said.

“Absolutely iconic! Can’t get more Canadian than that,” another user commented.

According to Charron’s Olympic profile, drinking maple syrup is part of her routine.

“Drinks coffee and maple syrup between her events at competitions,” reads her biography.

Canadians will also be surprised to hear that this is not the first time a Canadian athlete was spotted drinking maple syrup during a competition. In 2020, tennis player Vasek Pospisil was also caught drinking it during a match.

“Maple syrup. Best sports performance drink. Anti-cancerous properties. Rich in nutrients and minerals. Fights against terrorists. Shockingly good in coffee. A great friend. You’re welcome, world,” he said on X.

Back at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Charron won gold in the 64 kg weight class.
