Anti-capitalist hijinks timed for Prague meet

Rating: NNNNN

The bigwigs assembling at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Prague September 26 will get the royal Seattle/Washington, DC treatment. That’s thanks to Czech activists who have been busy painting their puppets and practising their chants.

But the action’s not confined to the Czech capital. According to Jonathan Hodge of the Toronto Mobilization for Global Justice, September 26 will see simultaneous demos in other cities around the world, including T.O.

Hodge says the message is slowly getting through. “If you look at the IMF rhetoric before and after Washington, you see quite a dramatic shift. Now they say, “We’re just a misunderstood institution, why don’t you give us a chance?'”
