After eight years of serving up delicious pizza, popular Toronto eatery Big Trouble Pizza has announced it will be serving its final slice this week as the restaurant prepares to embark on a new venture.

Known for its smash burgers and signature pizzas, such as the fan-favourite Butter Jam Pizza, Big Trouble made the announcement on social media last week, revealing that their final day of operation will be Jan. 31.

Over the past eight years, the restaurant has moved locations several times, starting in Chinatown, then relocating to the Annex Hotel, and finally settling at its current spot at 191 Geary Avenue.

While the restaurant did not disclose the reason for the closure, it did hint at an exciting new project on the horizon.

“It’s something we’ve been focusing more and more on over the last couple of months,” the team wrote in an Instagram post. “What’s coming is something we’re very enthusiastic and passionate about.”

The announcement sparked an outpouring of support from fans and local residents, many expressing both sadness at the closure and excitement for what’s next.

“You are legends in the pizza biz. I’ll never forget flying back to MTL with three Big Trouble pizzas on the plane… everyone was so jelly,” one Instagram user commented.

“Where am I going to take my two young kids now? Heartbroken,” wrote another.

“Catastrophic news for your diehard fans, but proud of you for moving with the times and doing what you need to do to continue making your mark in TO,” added a third.

“Thank you for being the only spot to get a wicked burger and a delicious slice all under one roof. You’ve been my favorite part of living near Geary! Will visit this week and check out your next spot when it opens!” another fan said.

As for what’s next, Big Trouble Pizza says details will be shared in due course.

“Thank you again to everyone for all your support through the years,” the restaurant wrote, signing off on its final chapter at 191 Geary Avenue.
