1. African women speak out
Crises in far-off countries tend to feel remote unless we hear from the people experiencing them. At the Ask Her Talks, a funder for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, five women from Africa describe their challenging situations and speak about how philanthropy can spark change. Wednesday (May 27), 7 pm, at the Isabel Bader Theatre, 93 Charles West. $20. askhertalks.com.

2. It’s Bike To Work Day, people
On Monday (May 25), Bike To Work Day kicks off Bike Month from various points (downtowners meet at Yonge and Bloor) and converges on Nathan Phillips Square. That’ll get you a free breakfast, but you’ll have to get up early, since rides start at 7:30 am. Check bikemonth.ca for details on this and other bike-related events rolling into a neighbourhood near you through June 29.
3. David Suzuki speaks
The enviro icon’s June Callwood Lecture at the Reference Library, 789 Yonge, 7 pm, Wednesday (May 27), inspired by letters to his grandchildren, is sold out. Fortunately, the event is simulcast in the library atrium, but you still have to RSVP at eventbrite.ca.
