Byron Sonne, G20 hacker, is free

Byron Sonne was dancing in the lobby of the courthouse on University Ave today, his smile extending ear-to-ear. He was free.

As he joked and laughed with supporters, his lawyers waited to the right of him. When he was ready, Sonne exited the court to a crowd of reporters. As he walked into the tangle of microphones, cameras and recorders, he threw up his arms, his hands making the victory gesture. Before giving his statement, he held his bail papers in the air and ripped them up.

This is all because Sonne is no longer on the hook for hacking the G20 Conference. A judge threw out five charges today related to his arrest on June 22, 2010 for a variety of terrorism-related charges. Most of those were dropped in May of last year, when Sonne was released on bail.

Today the trial judge found there was no evidence against Sonne to suggest he did anything wrong, and he’s now exonerated on everything related to G20.

Here’s Sonne just as he stepped out of the courthouse.
