Is your name Charlotte or Noah? If so, you share a name with hundreds of Canadian babies born in 2025, according to a new report crowning the two as the country’s most popular baby names.
Statistics Canada released its report this week, ranking the top 10 baby names by sex at birth for 2025.
The top baby name for 2025 was Noah, with 2,190 newborns sharing the name, while Charlotte took the top spot for baby girl names, with 1,502.
Names were ranked from one to 10.
For boys, the top names in 2025, from rank 1 to 10, were:
- Noah
- Theodore
- Liam
- Leo
- William
- Oliver
- Jack
- Benjamin
- Thomas
- Lucas
For girls, the top names in 2025, from rank 1 to 10, were:
- Charlotte
- Olivia
- Emma
- Sophia
- Amelia,
- Sofia
- Chloe
- Mia
- Lily
- Nora.
Charlotte takes over
Olivia has held the top spot since 2016, according to the data agency. Now, nearly ten years later, it’s been dethroned by the name Charlotte.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t still a large number of newborns being named either Olivia or Charlotte.
In 2025, Canada saw the birth of 1445 Olivias, just 57 short of the number of newborns named Charlotte.
As for Noah, which has held the top spot for boys since 2021, the name is holding strong with a 561-name lead over Theodore. This gap has stayed consistent for the last few years, so it’s unclear if and when the name Noah will have its crown taken.
