If you’re in the comedy community, don’t forget to vote in the annual CANADIAN COMEDY AWARDS. The deadline is tonight just before midnight. I just cast my vote before writing this.

The event is now in its 8th year, and the winners get announced during the five-day celebration October 9-13 in glorious London, Ontario. I’d hate to be a comic performing in one of Toronto’s clubs that weekend. Not only have you probably not been nominated, but a big chunk of the local funny community won’t be in the audience to see you.
This year’s noms are, as always, an eclectic bunch. And some are questionable. Take a look at those “comic” movie nominations and you’ll see what I mean. Everyone’s heard of Bon Cop Bad Cop and For Your Consideration, but what are these movies like If I See Randy Again Do You Want Me To Hit Him With The Axe? (true title – directed by someone named Vivieno Caldinelli) and Breakdown (directed by John Bolton)? Don’t remember either of those showing up at my multiplex.
In the stand-up categories, it’s going to be hard to beat Last Comic Standing Top 10 finalists Gerry Dee and Debra DiGiovanni. And can anyone really beat Best Newcomer nominee Jeff McEnery, who will likely add this title to his already long list of comedy wins (Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award, Yuk Yuk’s Great Canadian Laugh Off)?
Stay tuned here for the winners…
