Hope In Haiti In a country where 80% of schools are for profit, the SOPUDEP learning center gives poorer kids a chance – help support the school by attending a funder featuring Haitian community leader, Réa Dol and African drums and dance by Claudine and Co., and the African Rhythm Society. 6:30 pm. $20, stu $10. Sumugan Sivanesan The Australian artist speaks about his artwork based on historical research into the Lascars, South Asian sailors who crewed on colonial ships. The event, which includes a dinner and is co-presented by SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Centre), is the first in a lecture series called The Bridge. At Toronto Free Gallery. See listings.

FADO performance Local artists Simon Rabyniuk and Jo SiMalaya Alcampo and Japan’s Yumi Onose present They Perform On Friday And On Saturday They Respond To Friday. Yes, that means tomorrow they will do a new work in response to tonight’s. Don’t ask us what it’s about. According to performance art centre FADO, “They perform near us. We feel their work.
