Haruo Nakano The official photographer of the Grand Shrine of Ise gives a talk (in Japanese with English translation) called Shikinen Sengu: The Ceremonial Rebuilding Of The Shrine Every 20 Years Since 690 AD. His photos (printed on washi and framed with timber from the shrine’s forest) document the serene yet busy life of the sacred site, where Shinto priests and craftspeople perform a cycle of rituals propitiating sun goddess Amaterasu, prosperity goddess Toyouke and other nature deities.
