In a heart-wrenching incident, a dog that fell through ice in Brampton has still not been located.

Peel police first tweeted just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, saying two major roads were closed as Brampton’s fire department worked to rescue the dog.

It has not been shared how the dog ended up on the ice.

The road closure lasted about an hour while efforts continued to locate the dog.

Peel police added to their original tweet just before 9 p.m., saying, “We understand that

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services crews did everything they could to try and locate the dog,” appearing to say the search  ended without locating the dog.

The incident comes the same week four people fell through the ice at Toronto’s waterfront in two separate incidents over the past two days.

Those four people were all rescued. Three of them were rushed to hospital by paramedics and treated for hypothermic conditions. One sustained serious, potentially life-threatening injuries, but all are expected to recover.

Toronto reminded the public that ice on Toronto waterways is not safe, in an advisory shared Monday.
