GERRY DEE’S STILL A LAST COMIC STANDING

And then there were five…

Congrats to Toronto’s Gerry Dee for surviving the cut at Wednesday’s Last Comic Standing. He’s one of the final five. So far he hasn’t had to compete in that run-off at the end of the show (which saw local comic Debra DiGiovanni leave, sadly and unfairly, the previous week), so maybe the other comics are scared of him. Matt Kirshen did end up voting for him (with some silly rhyme), but that seemed the ploy of a desperate man and * spoiler alert * he ended up getting kicked off anyway.

I know it’s all about editing, and I haven’t seen many episodes (gotta rely on my friends with cable to let me watch), but strange how Dee is coming off as a bit cocky on the show. Look how his savvy idea of trying to get the women of Deal Or No Deal to laugh backfired on him when the producers mixed things up.

Best line of the night was when Jabba the Hut look-a-like Lavell Crawford walked into the room expecting to see a Deal Or No Deal babe and instead encountered drag queen Jackie Beat, in serious makeup. Crawford blurted out: “I’ve got all your records, Kiss!” which made the tough-as-nails Beat crack up.

Check out a Q&A I did with Dee earlier this year.
