GO trains are back to regular service following a network outage that triggered a service standstill on Tuesday.

“At this time, we can confirm that we have resumed normal GO Train and UP Express service today with minimal disruptions. While we do not anticipate further delays or cancellations, we are committed to providing as much notice as possible to customers in the event of any changes,” Metrolinx said in a statement to Now Toronto.

In a tweet posted late Wednesday, the transit agency says it still encourages  travellers to check the service updates page before starting their commute.

On Tuesday afternoon, CN rail announced an online outage prompted a system-wide shutdown of GO train service just before 1:45 p.m. As a result, GO trains were halted at the nearest station and unable to move until given further instructions.

Around 4:30 p.m, GO Transit released an update saying its top priority was travellers at Union Station and that it was resuming service with outbound trains every 30 minutes. In addition, cancellations and delays were expected to continue throughout the remainder of the evening. Travellers were also told to look for alternative routes to reach their destination or consider travelling later.

CN rail finally restored its internet connectivity close to 8:15 p.m and regular service resumed for GO and VIA trains to and from Union Station.

Tuesday’s widespread outage left thousands of travellers stranded at GO train ports, especially at Union Station. Many of them took to social media to voice their concerns and frustrations.
