Hanging up the TIFF party dress…

It’s time to tuck another TIFF into bed (actually, the festival continues for two more days but the social circuit is thinning out so I’m hanging up my party dress today).

Tomorrow’s column, Morning After Doing a Week’s Worth of Laundry and Dishes, probably isn’t worth your read so here’s my TIFF scene wrap up list:

The party: Patti Smith! Patti Smith! Patti Smith! Aside from that soiree, post premiere bashes couldn’t beat the parties for no particular film. The Holt Renfrew and Hello! events weren’t the most boldfaced occasions but their lack of VIP rooms and well mixed guest lists meant a better time was had by all.

Best star watching: The crowd outside the Intercontinental and its star interview suites was bigger than fanatic turnouts at the Park Hyatt, Four Seasons or last year’s it spot, the Hazelton.

Most ubiquitous celebrity: We’ll have to call it a tie between Gil Bellows and Sophia Bush who each attended more parties than we did this TIFF. And it is “Sophia” by the way. Halfway through the festival, press releases and reporters started calling the star “Sophie” but her publicist confirms there was not a mid-festival name change.

We strongly support local talent but…: As much as we love coming home from school and watching Degrassi, that cast does not make a star studded red carpet. Even parent network CTV seems to think so as cast members were spotted vigorously crackberrying outside the eTalk Festival Party after security wouldn’t let them approach the check in desk.

It’s all about the fashion baby: The Holt Renfrew party, Fashion Television‘s DSquared2 runway show and the premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor where the crisply tanned designer walked the Winter Garden red carpet made style one of this TIFF’s biggest stars. If we must award best dressed, our golden hanger goes to Anne Hathaway’s shoes at the Rachel Getting Married premiere. With ten buckles between the pair, no other festival accessory required more awesome effort.

Gift Lounge revival: “Swag” was a dirty word in celeb circles for a while but the appearance of top stars like Tim Robbins, Queen Latifah and Paris (yes, her omnipresence is enough to make her A-list) at this TIFF’s gifting suites like Tastemakers and IT suggests freebies are just fine again.

Festival party moment: On Monday night, celebrity starved photographers staking out the E! anniversary party at Spice Route snapped to attention as soon as the freakish Burger King mascot (pictured) appeared to walk the red carpet with a babe on each arm.

Until next TIFF…!
