Harris/Goodmans

Rating: NNNNN

Mel Lastman once said that everything Mike Harris touched turned to crap.

But it would seem the mayor’s son disagrees with his father’s opinion of the former Ontario premier. Why else would Dale Lastman hire Harris to be a senior business advisor to his law firm –Goodmans LLP.

“Our business is to help clients manage change and Mr. Harris’ wealth of talent and breadth of experience will expand the suite of services we offer clients and complement our legal expertise,” the lawyer Lastman said in a news release issued yesterday.

So how does Mayor Lastman feel now that his former political nemesis is practically part of the family? If he thinks it’s a load of crap he wasn’t saying so publicly.

“I had nothing to do with it and I know nothing about it except I wish them both well,” Lastman said. “I wish Mike Harris well. I wish Goodmans well. I think they’ll make a good team.”

Goodmans obviously has a thing for hiring ex-premiers — regardless of their political stripe. Bob Rae, whose NDP government was tossed out of Queen’s Park by the Harris led Tories in 1995, is also on the company payroll.
