A Toronto woman is questioning Hopp’s service standards after she says her driver requested to stop for gas in the middle of her ride, prompting a viral TikTok that has other users sharing similar experiences. The ride-hailing company says it takes these complaints seriously and encourages riders to report them directly.
On July 21, a creator called Talia complained to TikTok that Hopp’s lack of professionalism, whether from stopping for gas or asking for money off the app, is making her want to delete the app.

“I don’t know why we can’t get our gas before we accept the ride?” she questioned in the video.
“The bus drivers don’t stop and get gas,” she added. “So I don’t understand why you think it’s acceptable to get gas on my time.”
Another complaint was about a driver asking for cash, but the creator justified it: “I booked Hopp because I don’t have cash and I don’t want to use cash,” she said in the video.
Comments agree and share negative experiences with Hopp
The comments under her video agree that Hopp isn’t the best rideshare app out there.
“I think Hopp is full of drivers that got banned from Lyft and Uber,” one TikTok user commented.
“Hopp is buns. Why does it say ‘Driver found,’ but it takes 15 minutes to find one,” another added.
“But if you asked them to make a stop, you’d have to use the app and pay extra!” another wrote.
Other users also shared negative experiences.
“I had a driver legit commit bare speeding violations and almost rear-ended cars in front of us… while honking at them??? Hopp ain’t do nun tho smh,” another complained.
“I also find these drivers unsafe. They always tryna ask for numbers and flirt. No, just drop me off,” another user said.
Hopp responds
Hopp told Now Toronto to report incidents to the support team immediately.
“If you encounter any similar situation, please report it to our support team immediately. We will thoroughly investigate the matter and take strict action against anyone found responsible,” a spokesperson wrote.
“Our drivers are committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and conduct. Such behaviour is not tolerated under any circumstances,” Hopp added.
Hopp is one of several ride-hailing services operating in Toronto, competing with established platforms such as Uber and Lyft.
As competition in the sector grows, customer experience and driver professionalism remain key factors for riders deciding which service to use.
