The city says it will take three weeks to complete snow removal across Toronto, but some residents are raising alarm bells over safety and their ability to travel amid transit delays.

According to a recent news release, snow removal is being done on a priority basis, which includes main streets with transit routes, hospital and emergency service stations, sidewalks, school bus loading zones and places with limited space for snow storage.

It is also advising residents to consider taking public transportation to keep roads accessible for clearing operations.

But, the TTC has reported multiple snow-related service delays since about 50 cm of snow was dumped on the city last week.

In an update on X this morning, the transit commission said 37 of its 55 scheduled trains would be running on Line 1 after extreme wind and blowing snow overnight caused delays.

“The normal wait time of approx 3 mins could be up to 5 mins for now,” the post said, adding that crews are working hard to get the full fleet out on track.

On Line 2, trains are also moving slower than normal.

“We apologize for these delays,” the TTC said.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, GO Transit said it was experiencing weather-related issues due to the heavy snow fall and cold temperatures, adding this morning that passengers may experience delays, modifications and cancellations.

As clean up efforts continue, city residents have been sharing their thoughts on the municipality’s storm handling efforts.

“It’s a big city. I actually think we do pretty well. Its snowed quite a bit. Takes time to hit up everywhere. Some side streets won’t get cleaned for a day or two,” one Reddit user wrote.

“Toronto barely gets snow any more, so they can’t really keep all the equipment and manpower on tap for rapid cleanup. Just not efficient financially,” someone else commented.

On the contrary, others were unimpressed with the plowing.

“I’m west of college and none of the side streets have been cleared at all – I drove around for two hours trying to find safe parking,” another person wrote.

The city told Now Toronto that it is holding a press conference later this afternoon to provide an update on its snow removal plans.
