A T.O. cop with a badass rep in the gay ghetto for his role in the Bijou and Barn busts may be showing up undercover in a bathhouse near you.
The neighbourhood has been abuzz with the rumour, prompting councillor Kyle Rae to call 52 Division head Aidan Maher to ask what’s the score.
Rae says Maher, who’s unavailable for comment, assured him that there are no undercover operations in bathhouses.
Since complaints about drugs and prostitution were used as a pretext for the bathhouse raids of the early 80s, Maher’s assurances are small comfort.
Patrons of one spa phoned Rae’s office two weeks ago with complaints of drug-dealing on the premises.
The matter has been dealt with by management there, but how long will it be before similar complaints begin reaching the cops?
The cops and gays have had an understanding on policing nightclubs, but now that Julian Fantino’s in town, one spa owner says the officer of Bijou and Barn fame, who did not respond to a request from NOW for comment, may take it upon himself to begin busting bathhouses.
Says this spa owner, “This guy’s got an agenda.”
