al peabody, the jazz voice of u of t campus radio CIUT-FM, is there no more. It all began when the station embarked on an effort to build up its record and CD library. Some staff had apparently been availing themselves of items in the collection and selling them at neighbourhood second-hand outlets for quick cash.
As a consequence, the station decided to instruct record companies to send CDs directly to the station and not to on-air jocks, which to Peabody came across as a bit of a personal dis. He had been getting materials directly from companies for years.
Peabody says he became angrier still when he noticed mail addressed to him opened at the station. "I'm not going to go back and kiss butt," he says.
Station manager Brian Burchell, meanwhile, has filled Peabody's 3-to-6-pm slot Mondays with another jock. He calls the turn of events "regrettable."
