Another Nanos poll this morning on the federal election, only this one showing the Libs at 30 per cent popularity and shrinking the gap between themselves and the Tories, who are at 39 per cent, to nine points. The NDP are steady at 16 per cent support nationwide.

The Tories have stumbled out of the gate, setting a somewhat desperate tone trying to whip up coalition fears on day one and in recent days having to put out brush fires over the Bruce Carson affair. The usually-friendly, small-c conservative Globe has been generally unfavourable in its coverage of the Tory campaign, cutting up the attack ads the party seems to be relying on heavily to motivate its base. The Globe has hailed the Liberal platform released Sunday as “prudent and pragmatic.”

The more strident Sun has been kinder to Harper’s crew, but Peter Worthington weighed in with a column Monday, April 4 questioning the Conservatives’ $35 billion purchase of F-35 fighter jets.

Jack Layton’s NDP, meanwhile, has been fighting to be heard but the small crowds at campaign rallies have been the focus of most of the media coverage of the NDP. To our question then: which of the federal party leaders has impressed you so far?
