The lights have finally come on the Salvation Army’s new Harbour Light shelter at Jarvis and Shuter. And the results are glowing.
Work crews raised the curtain of light on the centrepiece of the Diamond + Schmitt Architects creation last week, installing translucent panels over the giant corrugated steel reflectors that, exposed for months, had given the contemporary red-brick building an industrial feel. More than a few passersby were put off by the loud show of heavy metal.
No more.
Now, soothing beams of light now cast their hue like a warm beacon that can be seen for blocks around. Strangely moving.
