A video of a man threatening a cop with an axe in Kitchener is going viral online.
The nearly one-minute video first shows a car accident in the middle of an intersection and a Waterloo police officer tackling a man on the ground and attempting to Taser him.
After the cop gets off the man, the man is seen walking to his pick-up truck and taking out an axe. He then starts walking towards the officer and in response the officer pulls out his gun.
The man is eventually Tasered by another officer at the scene, before he is arrested.
Waterloo police say the incident happened on Feb. 5, shortly before 5:30 p.m when an officer was patrolling the area of Strasburg Rd. and Block Line Rd., and was alerted by automated licence plate recognition technology of a disqualified driver, police said in a news release.
The driver tried to evade the officer and ran a red light before striking another vehicle in the intersection, police said. The driver then exited his truck and attempted to fight the cop before getting his hatchet, and subsequently getting arrested, according to police.
The 27-year-old Kitchener man is facing six charges, including Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Assault police, and Resist arrest, among others. The man was held for a bail hearing, police said.
There were three people in the vehicle that was struck in the intersection, and they were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
