A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Toronto after the city was hit with a massive snow dump over the weekend.

On Tuesday, Environment Canada issued the advisory with up to four centimeters of snow expected in the city, starting this afternoon into the evening. The national weather agency warns that the snow could cause poor visibility at times.

“A band of lake effect snow has moved into the area. In addition, gusty winds may produce local blowing snow, reducing visibility. Snow will end and winds will diminish this evening,” Environment Canada stated online.

The agency warns to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

The snow comes after the city saw back-to-back winter storms that saw nearly 50 cm of snow fall in the city last week.

City officials say it could take up to three weeks to remove snow from city roads and sidewalks, as snow is transported by dump trucks to designated storage sites.

“As directed by Toronto City Council, snow removal will be done on a priority basis including locations such as main street sidewalks, transit stops, cycling infrastructure, hospitals and emergency services stations, and school bus loading zones, as well as roads with limited space for snow storage,” City staff said in a statement on Monday.

It’s set to be windy tonight with a low of -15 C. On Wednesday, there’s a chance of flurries in the afternoon with a high of -7 C, feeling like -19 in the morning with the wind chill, and a low of -13 in the evening. Cloudy with a chance of flurries on Thursday with a high of -8 C and a low of -13 C.
