Ontario is reporting the highest single-day number of new COVID cases and deaths the province has seen since the pandemic started.
The province recorded 3,519 cases and 89 deaths on Thursday, bringing the seven-day rolling average to 3,141 cases. Meanwhile, the crisis in long-term care facilities is worsening. Of the 89 deaths recorded today, 43 are among long-term care residents. There have been 4,856 deaths in the province from the virus.
The province completed 65,772 tests in the past 24 hours. A total of 70,967 vaccinations have been administered in Ontario as of yesterday, which is less than half the supply delivered to the province so far.
There are now 26,718 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 1,472 cases in hospitals. Intensive care units are also continuing to see growing numbers, with 363 cases and 242 of those patients on ventilators.
