Ontario reports 3,128 new COVID-19 cases and 51 deaths

Ontario is reporting 3,128 new cases of COVID-19 and 51 deaths as hospital intensive care units reach capacity.

Meanwhile, the seven-day rolling average of new COVID cases has reached an all-time high of 3,065.

There are 778 new cases in Toronto today, along with 614 in Peel, 213 in York Region, 172 in Durham 151 in Middlesex-London and 151 in Hamilton.

Ontario completed fewer than 40,000 tests for the second consecutive day, with 35,152 completed in the past 24 hours as the rollout of vaccinations has stalled. As of yesterday, 48,920 vaccinations have been administered in the province.

The province has 25,840 active cases of COVID-19, including 1,347 in hospital, with 352 patients in intensive care. That’s well beyond the peak of 264 patients in critical care back in the spring. There are 245 intensive care patients on ventilators, up 51 from the day before.

Of the 51 deaths reported, 22 were among residents in long-term care facilities.

There have been a total of 197,360 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario. The provincial death toll has reached 4,730.
