Ontario reports 118 cases of COVID-19

Ontario reported 118 new COVID-19 infections on August 27, the highest increase in a week.

Public health officials reported 88 new cases on Wednesday after five days of triple-digit growth. There were 100 new infections on Tuesday, 105 on Monday and 115 on Sunday.

Today’s number is the highest daily rise since August 20 when Ontario reported 131 new COVID-19 infections.

Medical labs in the province processed more than 28,600 tests in the past 24 hours.

“Locally, 28 of Ontario’s 34 public health units are reporting five or fewer cases, with 18 reporting no new cases,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said.

Toronto recorded the most new cases, with 36. Ottawa reported 22, Peel Region confirmed 19 and Windsor-Essex had 12 new infections.

One more person has died since yesterday. Another 77 cases are resolved. To date, 37,940 people have recovered from the virus and 2,803 people have died.

There have been 41,813 cases of COVID-19 in the province since the outbreak began.

There are 48 patients in hospital, 18 in intensive care and 10 on ventilators.
