A Toronto airline has beat out several global flight companies as the number one ranked economy class in the sky, according to a new survey.
Based on the newly released 2024 Best Economy Class report from the USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards, Porter Airlines offers the most favourable economy class, ranking ahead of American Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Delta Airlines, to name a few. A total of 20 airlines were nominated in the study, and then the top 10 were ranked based on votes from USA Today readers.
Porter Airlines was the only Canadian carrier to make the list.
The rankings say that, “Passengers enjoy comfortable seats, snacks, and an assortment of beverage options, including local wine and beer,” on Porter flights, which calls Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport its home.
“It goes to show that what we’re doing is working,” Edmond Eldebs, senior vice president and chief commercial officer of Porter Airlines, told Now Toronto on Friday.
“Porter is focused on making economy travel better for everyone. We’ve accomplished this for our passengers and we’ve also made things much better for customers travelling with other airlines.”
Eldebs credits the no-middle-seat on any flight, free beer and wine served in glassware, and premium snack offerings as for what makes Porter the favourite amongst flyers.
“We now also have high-quality fresh meal options, plus free streaming-quality WiFi available on our new E195-E2 aircraft for all passengers,” Eldebs said.
The ranking listed Porter Airlines as a “hidden gem” for offering regional flights across the U.S., as well as to and from every province in Canada.
Southwest Airlines took second place for its low cost flights and substantial rewards, while Air New Zealand came in third for its relaxing slimline seats with flexible headrests, and inflight entertainment perks.
The USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards choose nominees through a panel of experts to find out the best flights and accommodations, food and drink, and activities to do.
