Run for this remix

Remember that Future Sound Of Toronto cover story we did in January that generated a surprising amount of hate (or jealousy?) towards the up-and-coming dance producers we tagged as ones-to-watch? Yeah, that was weird, but a sign that maybe Toronto cares more about its local talent than we thought.

Pilotpriest was one of the ten artists we picked, in part based on the strong run of bootleg remixes he’s been cranking out.

In particular, his electro-house retread of Run DMC’s My Adidas got a lot of attention when it was initially leaked to the Internet, but it was quickly pulled before many had a chance to download it. It only made its way to a small handful of DJ’s when it was originally leaked, but got a fair amount of play nevertheless, including by the recently deceased celebrity DJ AM.

The remix may have been disappeared from the web, but it wasn’t forgotten, so a remastered and fine-tuned version has been posted for download, and is spreading quickly across the blogs. What was once the secret weapon of a few is now accessible by all. Some have been reporting that Def Jam has officially sanctioned it, but unfortunately that’s not true. That means if you want it, you’d better grab it quick before the lawyers start sending letters.

Pilotpriest is also about to release Zipper, his first single on Calamity Jane (an electro sub-label of house music heavyweight Strictly Rhythm). It hits the streets September 29, and he’ll be celebrating with a release party September 25 at the Drake Hotel Underground.[rssbreak]
