What to know
- Scarborough Southwest is one of three Ontario ridings heading to the polls for a provincial by-election on Sept. 3.

Some Ontarians are heading to the polls in September after the province called three by-elections, including one in Scarborough.
Premier Doug Ford called the by-elections last week, with voting set for Sept. 3. They will take place in the electoral districts of Scarborough Southwest, York-Simcoe and Hamilton East-Stoney Creek.
In Scarborough Southwest, the by-election was triggered by the resignation of former NDP MPP Doly Begum, who now serves as the Liberal MP for Scarborough Southwest.
This will mark the second time this year that voters in Scarborough Southwest head to the polls, this time for a provincial election.
The three major parties have announced their candidates. The Ontario NDP is running Fatima Shaban, a Scarborough Southwest community organizer, parent and tenant advocate. The NDP selected Shaban as its candidate in April.
The Ontario Liberals have nominated Ahsanul Hafiz. The party announced his nomination in May.
The Progressive Conservatives are running Dr. Noor Tarun, a family physician and Scarborough community leader. Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford announced Tarun as the party’s candidate in July.
Vote at your local election office
Voters can cast their ballots at their local election office from Aug. 6 to Sept. 2. Offices are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Residents can find their closest office on the Elections Ontario website.
Vote by mail
Voters can apply to vote by mail before Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. Elections Ontario must receive completed voting kits by 6 p.m. on Sept. 3 for the votes to be counted.
Vote during advance voting
Voters can cast their ballots at any advance voting location from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, Thursday, Aug. 27, and Friday, Aug. 28.
Vote on election day
On Sept. 3, voters can cast their ballots at their assigned voting location. Polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
