What to know

  • The Odyssey is screening in IMAX 70mm at only two theatres in the Greater Toronto Area: Cineplex Cinemas Mississauga Square One and Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan.
  • There are just nine theatres across Canada equipped to present the film in the premium large-format format.
  • At the time of publication, most remaining July tickets at the GTA locations are limited to front-row seating, with August showtimes also filling up quickly.
  • The film is also available in standard, IMAX and UltraAVX formats at other theatres across the region.

Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, is drawing huge crowds, and moviegoers hoping to experience it in IMAX 70mm in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) have just two theatres to choose from, with the best seats disappearing fast.

The action film follows Greek hero Odysseus on his long journey home after the Trojan War and features a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland.

Shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, The Odyssey was designed to be seen in IMAX 70mm, the premium large-format presentation that offers exceptional image quality and an immersive viewing experience.

Only two GTA theatres can screen it in IMAX 70mm

While The Odyssey is playing in a variety of formats, including standard, IMAX and UltraAVX, there are only nine theatres in Canada capable of screening the film in IMAX 70mm.

For moviegoers in the Greater Toronto Area, that leaves just two options:

  • Cineplex Cinemas Mississauga Square One
  • Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan

They’re also the only two theatres in Ontario equipped to present the film in IMAX 70mm.

Good seats are becoming harder to find

At the time of publication, both GTA theatres have very limited availability throughout the remainder of July, with many showtimes offering only seats in the front rows.

Moviegoers hoping for seats farther back may have better luck with August screenings, though those tickets are also selling quickly. Current showtimes at both locations extend through Aug. 20, with availability changing frequently.
