TIFF officially kicks off today, and if you’re hoping to catch a screening that’s already sold out, there’s still a chance to get in through a Rush line.
Certain screenings and events at TIFF Lightbox are designated as Rush-eligible, meaning people without tickets can line up for a last-minute chance to see the film if seats are left over.
If a Rush-eligible screening is sold out, moviegoers without tickets can join the Rush line outside the venue. About 15 minutes before the screening starts, TIFF’s Front of House staff will count the empty seats in the cinema and release a limited number of Rush tickets.
Tickets are sold first come, first served, so getting there early is key. But there’s an important catch: standing in the Rush line does not guarantee you’ll get a ticket.
TIFF recommends arriving at the Rush line no earlier than 60 minutes before the screening.
If you do have a ticket, you’ll also want to arrive early. TIFF says screenings and events start promptly at their scheduled times, and for screenings at TIFF Lightbox, 30 minutes early is considered on time, while 15 minutes early is late.
Latecomers may be admitted at the discretion of Front of House staff, but if you’re turned away because you arrived late, you won’t receive a refund.
