BTS and Ed Sheeran are among the major acts performing in Toronto this weekend, but showers and a risk of thunderstorms could make for a soggy concert experience.

What to know

  • BTS will perform two sold-out shows at Rogers Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Ed Sheeran will wrap up his three-show Rogers Centre run with performances Friday and Saturday.
  • Saturday could bring thunderstorms and showers, while Sunday is also expected to see rain.
  • Outdoor venues remind concertgoers that shows are rain or shine and recommend coming prepared for wet weather.

From BTS to Ed Sheeran, Toronto is gearing up for a packed weekend of concerts and outdoor events, but the forecast could put a damper on some of those plans.

As summer break begins to wind down for many, events across the city are still in full swing. K-pop powerhouse BTS will take over the outdoor Rogers Stadium for two sold-out shows on Saturday and Sunday, while Ed Sheeran wraps up his three-show run at Rogers Centre with performances Friday and Saturday.

But if you’re heading to an outdoor concert this weekend, you may want to pack a poncho.

According to Environment Canada, Saturday could see a risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon, with showers continuing into the evening. Temperatures are expected to reach the low 20s during the day before dropping into the high teens overnight.

Sunday could also be a wet one, with showers expected in the morning and a chance they could continue into the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will again sit in the low 20s before dipping into the high teens overnight.

And the rain may not disappear after the weekend. Monday is also expected to bring showers, with drier conditions and more seasonal temperatures expected to return around the middle of next week.

Going to an outdoor concert?

If you’re heading to Rogers Stadium or the RBC Amphitheatre this weekend, don’t let the forecast catch you off guard. Both venues remind concertgoers that shows are held rain or shine, and ponchos are permitted.

For festivals and other outdoor events, policies can vary, so it’s best to check with organizers before heading out.
