According to Environment Canada, the day is shaping up to be a wet one, with a chance of showers in the morning and a risk of thunderstorms developing in the afternoon.
The forecast indicates that the unsettled weather will persist into the evening and overnight hours, potentially disrupting outdoor activities and making for a challenging commute home.
In addition to the rain, Thursday is expected to be one of the coolest days of the week, with daytime highs reaching only 19 C. That’s well below the seasonal average of about 26 C for this time of year.
The conditions could affect major outdoor events, including the FIFA Fan Festival, which has already faced multiple cancellations and delays due to inclement weather since opening.
Good news for Pride weekend
Fortunately, the outlook improves heading into the weekend, when Pride festivities will take over the city. Toronto residents can expect dry conditions and temperatures closer to seasonal norms.
Sunday, when the annual Pride Parade winds through downtown Toronto, is forecast to bring a high of 26 C along with a mix of sun and cloud.
As of publication, there is only a slight chance of rain on Sunday, with any precipitation currently expected to arrive overnight after the day’s festivities have concluded.
Heat returns next week
Looking ahead to next week, temperatures are set to climb significantly, with a prolonged stretch of weather above 30 C expected to settle over the city.
The warmer conditions will be welcome news for those planning to celebrate Canada Day outdoors and fully embrace the start of summer.
