Turntables takes a spin around the Web

Fans of beatboxing, turntablism and surrealism will be on perma-smile when they check out a short film called Neurosonics Audiomedical Labs.

Featured on video sites Vimeo, YouTube and its own site, this three-minute film splices beatboxers’ heads on top of turntables to create a wild fusion of these two hiphop elements. The result is wildly imaginative fun.

The clip features renowned UK DJs the Scratch Perverts, past winner of the DMC Team Championship. The body-less beatboxers include Shlomo, Dr. Syntazx, Orifice Vulgatron, Metropolis and Stig.

By far, the most entertaining segment is the last 30 seconds, a solo of sorts starring the head of UK beatboxer Shlomo and some serious cutting, cross-fading and scratching from a skilled Scratch Pervert. It’s as if this vid is a tease of something more, perhaps a large-scale project blending audio-visual magicry and remixed beatboxing.

Director Chris Cairns is no stranger to teasers and music videos. He won acclaim for directing the LCD Soundsystem video Daft Punk is Playing at My House. A part of London production company Partizan Lab, Cairns bends reality in several of his most popular commercials, including a visually arresting spot for The Guardian and a stop-motion ad for Coke. Thankfully, Neurosonics Audiomedical Labs isn’t selling us anything but a fantastical tour in a beatboxing dreamscape.
