The University of Toronto is the second best university to attend in Canada, according to a report which ranks post-secondary institutions across the globe.

The QS World University Rankings 2023 features over 1,400 universities from around the world, marking its biggest university ranking since 2004.

The website, which compares various data on universities worldwide, uses six indicators to rank the institutions, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, and international student ratio & international faculty ratio.

The site allows users to filter rankings by region and indicator. Each university has a profile page where users can find out more about what the schools offer, the programmes available and their facilities.

In Canada alone, UofT had the second highest score of 81.5, after McGill University in Montreal with a score of 81.9.

Meanwhile, across schools in North America McGill and UofT ranked at 31 and 34 on the list, respectively.

The top three universities in North America are all south of the border, and in order they are: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, and Harvard University.

MIT also came in first place for the best university worldwide with a perfect score of 100, followed by University of Cambridge (98.8) and Stanford (98.5).

The QS World University Ranking for 2024 is set to be published in June.
