Following three drive-by shootings at a Richmond Hill movie theatre in May, another dangerous attack took place at the cinema this past weekend.
Newly released police video footage from Sunday night shows an arson attack at the movie theatre, near East Beaver Creek Road and Highway 7, where two suspects set a fire using Molotov cocktails.
In the video, two people are shown getting out of the back of a grey SUV at the front of the theatre before walking into the lobby at approximately 11:10 p.m.
One of the two suspects then places a bag on the ground before they both appear to light Molotov cocktails and throw them in the direction of the bag which catches on fire.
The footage shows the suspects running back to their idling vehicle, which speeds away from the scene.
The building’s sprinkler system was activated to extinguish the fire and none of the movie theater-goers on the second floor were injured, according to police.
Police say the SUV the suspects arrived in is a stolen grey Acura RDX that was reported stolen in Toronto two days prior.
The first suspect is described as having a medium build and was last seen wearing black shoes, black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt with a white shirt underneath, black gloves and a mask.
The second suspect is also described as having a medium build and was last seen wearing white shoes, black pants, a grey hooded sweatshirt, black gloves and a mask.
Earlier this year in May, Cineplex removed the 2024 South Indian film Malaikottai Vaaliban, following a series of drive-by shootings at various Greater Toronto Area theatres, including three at the Richmond Hill movie theatre.
Police urge anyone with information about the incident on Sunday to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
