Film

Grace, Milly, Lucy… Child Soldiers Mark Black History Month with a screening of this powerful documentary about female child soldiers in Uganda who have survived abduction, rape and years of captivity. Screens Saturday at the Royal, introduced by a rep from the International Bureau for Children’s Rights, and also begins a run at the NFB on Sunday with a speaker from the IBCR and Plan Canada. Cameraman: The Life & Work Of Jack Cardiff Craig McCall’s portrait of cinematographer Cardiff gets the first of four showings at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Sunday, to kick off a series of screenings that includes famous Cardiff-lensed works like Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes and The African Queen. Modra Support the opening weekend of local indie filmmaker Ingrid Veninger’s lovely debut feature about two teens (one of them played by the director’s own daughter) stuck together on a trip to Slovakia. Architecture Is All Over OCADU and U of T’s Daniels Faculty of Architecture co-sponsor this free one-day symposium Saturday in which architectural theorists from all over North America explore such issues as “how architectural discourse might formulate new, critical and interpretive vantages capable of reimagining the monstrous actions we release into the world as possibilities rather than pathogens” in sessions entitled The Pathology Of Architecture, The Nebulous And The Infinitesimal and Negentropic Machines. Ride the bus A free bus tour starts at noon on Sunday at Justina Barnicke Gallery’s Ron Terada show, Who I Think I Am (paintings of appropriated text including from the autobiography of artist/suicide Jack Goldstein), then heads to Mississauga’s Blackwood Gallery for Thérèse Mastroiacovo’s Following Following Piece (diagrams based on mentions in print of Vito Anconci’s 1969 Following Piece) and the Visual Arts Mississauga painting and sculpture show at the Art Gallery of Mississauga.
