Ecocide is a Global Crime Imagine being able to appeal to the UN about oil spills, climate change, water pollution, etc. That’s the project of UK lawyer Polly Higgins, author of Eradicating Ecocide, who points out that while the UN recognizes four categories of international crimes against peace, there is no recourse for crimes against the environment. The Golden Dragon Last chance to catch Roland Schimmelpfennig’s fascinating tale of immigrants’ lives, seen through the perspective of a fable and presented in a gender- and race-bending production. 28 Days: Reimagining Black History Month In conjunction with this excellent two-gallery group show (closing tomorrow at Justina M Barnicke and running to the end of the month at Georgia Scherman Projects), UK academic/curator Paul Goodwin and 28 Days artists Sonia Boyce of the UK, Canadians Dana Inkster and Camille Turner and American Robert Pruitt take part in a panel about critical debates on black culture. Chris Duncan, Ryan Wallace and Anders Oinonen Transmission Lines features two U.S.-based artists: Duncan paints lines emanating from enigmatic rectangular boxes, and Wallace explores space in textured drawings made of swirling marks. Concurrently, Toronto painter Oinonen, in People People, shows some of his characteristic dark landscapey abstractions alongside paintings that depict a schematic human face. At Cooper Cole.
