Incendies Thanks to its recent Oscar nomination in the best foreign-language film category, Denis Villeneuve’s powerful movie is the most talked-about Canadian flick of the week. Besnard Lakes The Montreal space rockers made it on to the short list for the last Polaris Music Prize, and recently scored an innovative interactive piece for the National Film Board of Canada. They play Lee’s Palace tonight, and make sure you get there early enough to catch Suuns. See listing.

Come Up To My Room For the annual Toronto Design Week event, designers and artists – Pamila Matharu, Orest Tataryn, Bruno Billio, Xiaojing Yan, Chaos Theory and others – re-envision the second-floor rooms at the Gladstone Hotel. Downstairs in the Art Bar, a retrospective documents previous years’ installations. A reception runs from 7 to 10 pm and the Love Design party starts at 10 pm. See listing.

Breaking Boundaries Last day for this 4N show of four young Canadians – Shary Boyle (mashups of porcelain figurines), Marc Courtemanche (clay standing in for wood), Carmela Laganse (furniture for vampires) and Brendan Tang (mashups of Chinese vases and jet packs) – who use ceramics in quirky and unusual ways.
