Windsor cops prepare for OAS blowout

Rating: NNNNN

To hear unionists tell it, Windsor cops and city officials are pulling out all the stops, including loading up on plastic shields, rubber bullets, water cannons, tear gas and pepper spray, in their preparations for the meeting of the Organization of American States in two weeks.

That info comes courtesy of a mole in the mayor’s office who, labour organizers say, has seen receipts and documents showing the purchase of the equipment.

The rumour mill has also been been spitting out some choice tidbits about clearing out the Windsor jail to make more room for protestors.

Windsor deputy chief Brian Greenham isn’t denying anything, but he won’t discuss police plans.

Windsor mayor Mike Hurst is more forthcoming.

“We do live in a peaceable society, and I expect (protestors) to act accordingly.”
