Phone plans in Canada have not gotten any cheaper or more flexible in the last few years. With most plans, customers are locked into an expensive phone plan that requires at least two-years of loyalty and financing a brand new phone.
That’s where Fizz comes in. Fizz is an affordable carrier that lets customers choose affordable and flexible phone plans with no hidden fees. Launched in 2018, Fizz offers no-commitment mobile phone plans all across Canada.
For those looking to switch from an existing phone plan, Fizz offers a two-week no-strings-attached free trial. It doesn’t even ask for a credit card number.
To see just how hassle-free it is to switch to Fizz, I signed up for a 15-day free trial.
The signup was ridiculously easy. The carrier first had to check to make sure my address and existing phone number were compatible, just in case I wanted to continue using Fizz permanently and wanted to transfer over my current phone number. My address also had to be in their service radius. Fizz’s mobile network coverage map doesn’t serve everywhere in Canada, mainly urban areas in Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Quebec.
The next step in signing up involved making an account with my email and password. After verifying my account using a code, Fizz gave me a QR code to scan with my phone. I recommend signing up for an account on a computer, so customers can use their phone to easily scan the QR code. I signed up on my phone, which made scanning the QR code tricky.
The trial plan included 100 minutes of calling, 100 text messages, and 3 GB of data, which was more than enough for calling my mom, scrolling social media, and sending emails. The service worked quite well even in Toronto subway’s underground tunnel between the East End and Downtown, with consistent service at high speeds the entire way, which allowed me to watch Instagram reels and reply to emails uninterrupted.
There wasn’t much service on the subway between Downtown and Toronto’s West End, which is to be expected. Other carriers don’t have tunnel service in that section of the tunnel either.
Overall, I found my experience switching to Fizz seamless. I currently have a phone plan that suits my lifestyle and budget, but once my contract ends, I will be sure to check out Fizz’s mobile plans. If you’re looking for a flexible and affordable phone plan, I highly encourage switching over to Fizz. If you’re still unsure and need a little push, sign up for Fizz’s 15-day free trial.
