Album reviews Music

Various artists

Rating: NNNN

Not surprisingly, ads plugging the soundtrack to Guy Ritchie’s looks-like-a-smash new flick, Snatch, pitch tracks by Mrs. Ritchie (aka Madonna), Massive Attack and Oasis as key selling points when, in fact, what makes the disc most appealing are the so-called non-marquee artists represented. And the inclusion of originals, not covers.

That means 10CC’s Dreadlock Holiday and the Johnston Brothers’ high-camp Hernando’s Hideaway share space with the Herbaliser, the Specials, Klint, Mirwais, Huey “Piano” Smith and the Clowns, and the Stranglers. Almost as good as the exceedingly excellent Casino soundtrack, only shorter.
