As part of this month’s UnionNOW Digital Residency, we’re featuring some of the prominent people associated with the ambitious Toronto Union project.
What do you do at Union?
JFN: We curate the retail spaces seeking out the most unique retail, service and restaurant concepts.
What’s the best way to spend one weekend in Toronto?
MR: Visiting some of the coolest neighbourhoods where many of the best independent shops and restaurants can be found. It’s possible to go on a culinary adventure sampling food from all around the world right in our city.
What’s one interesting fact that might surprise people who visit Union?
JFN: Now, when you’re at the station, people can see through a ‘window’ the city of Toronto with all of these cool independent retailers and restaurants.
Name someone in Toronto who should get more attention for his/her work in making the city a great place to live.
MR: I don’t think that the quantity is the sum of its parts. Meaning, that it is really the people of Toronto that make this a truly great city to live in. Without the unique diversity, culture ethnicity, no one person could make it what it is today. Approximately half of Toronto’s population was born outside of Canada, and over 150 languages and dialects are spoken in the city.
