Fans are speculating Drake might be in his “Desi era” after word spread about a recent purchase he made of a popular Indian song.

In a recent interview with the BBC Asian Network, one half of the Nooran Sisters revealed that Drake bought the rights to award winning single, “Patakha Guddi,” originally featured in the 2014 Bollywood film Highway.

The song was produced by Grammy award-winning composer A.R Rahman who chose The Nooran Sisters to voice the famous hit. It achieved around 477 million rupees at the box office and received an 88 per cent score on popular film review site Rotten Tomatoes.

Jyoti Nooran confirmed there’s another version of “Patakha Guddi” in the making with the help of Toronto rapper Drake.. She says the pair is currently working on the mix and that he dubbed it in India.

When asked whether she is impressed by the sensational rapper, she said, “it doesn’t really make a difference to me.”

Drake fans are very familiar with the star’s history of culturally-influenced discography, such as

“Controlla” (Dancehall), “Come Closer” (Afro beats) and “MIA” (Spanish).

REACTIONS FROM FANS

When news broke of this new cultural collaboration, many fans said they were eagerly waiting to hear the new rendition.

On the other hand, some fans are not looking forward to Drake’s new version.

“They have worked with A.R. Rahman. Drake ain’t making “Patakha Guddi” any better,” one Instagram user said.

“Noorani sisters are far more credible and talented than Drake. Unquestionable. I don’t think they need Drake to enhance their success or growth in anyway. He’s lucky to have them and knows what serious raw talent he’s just aligned himself to,” another user wrote.

Drake has not released an official date for the song yet, however Nooran says fans can expect the song to drop “soon.”
