Drake is taking his love for Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” one step further, recently teasing a remix to the chart-topping country hit.
The Toronto rapper recently previewed what appears to be an unreleased remix of Langley’s song during a DJ set, with Drake heard singing along to the song’s viral hook.
Neither artist has officially confirmed that a remix is coming, and it’s still unclear whether the version Drake previewed will ever be released.
But Drake has made his admiration for Langley pretty clear over the past few weeks.
Is Drake diving into the country sound?
Earlier this summer, the rapper played “Choosin’ Texas” during a DJ set in Houston. He also praised Langley’s songwriting in the comments of her Instagram post on Aug. 16, after the country singer shared a recap of her sold-out Dandelion Tour stops in Austin, Corpus Christi and Fort Worth.
“Goated pen,” Drake commented.
Then, on Aug. 22, Drake was spotted at Langley’s sold-out concert in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where he was filmed enthusiastically singing along to “Choosin’ Texas.”
This wouldn’t be Drake’s first rodeo when it comes to genre-bending. His surprise album trilogy this year — Iceman, Maid of Honour and Habibti — has explored a range of sounds, including R&B, electronic and dancehall. And while he hasn’t fully jumped on the country wave just yet, tracks like “Rusty Intro” and “Die Trying,” from his collab album Some Sexy Songs 4 U, have already showcased his vocals over acoustic guitar. So, a Drake country crossover might not be as far-fetched as it sounds.
“Choosin’ Texas” has become a massive hit for Langley, spending 19 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
For now, fans will have to wait and see if the Toronto preview turns into an official release.
