It’s the last weekend of April and lucky for us, it’s going to be a warm one! In honour of that, we’ve compiled a list of some fun activities you can do to ensure your weekend doesn’t go to waste.
This weekend, there’s art shows, a film festival, a mystery scavenger hunt and a food tour. Here’s what you can check out:
Friday, April 26:
COMÉDIE HUMAINE
Thompson Landry Gallery presents Comédie Humaine, a solo exhibition by Quebecois artist Michel Blouin showcasing 40 dynamic works on display. Blouin is known for his use of emotions, vibrant colours and symbolic language in his work. This exhibit is free and runs until May 5. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cherry Blossoms Photo Walk at Exhibition Place
Take photos of the freshly bloomed cherry blossoms at Exhibition Place. Phil Sutherland and Leah Denbok of West Toronto Photography Group have organized a free photo walk on the exhibition’s grounds for all photographers of all skill levels to join. Each walk is one hour and participants must meet at Bandshell Park. The walk starts at 4 p.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m.

Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival 2024
The 2024 Hot Docs Film Festival is back and in full swing all weekend long. This year, attendees can watch from a catalog of 168 diverse documentaries from across the world with 51 world and 32 international premieres. The festival is happening until May 5 at select theatres in the city. Tickets cost $20 to $23.

Saturday, April 27:
A Spring Affair: Party at Distillery District
The Distillery District is hosting a Spring Affair Party where it’s inviting people for a night of fun festivities. The party is a chance for people to make new friends, mingle and dance. The event includes live music, drinks, food and photo-ops. It’s being held at Gotstyle Clothing Store from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $27.96 each.

Gallery and Vintage Crawl in Little Portugal
Little Portugal has set up a gallery and vintage crawl featuring over ten galleries from local, national and international artists. In addition, there will also be 12 vintage shops where you can find unique and one-of-a-kind trinkets. The crawl takes place at Dundas St. W. from Shaw to Lansdowne. It’s free to attend and starts at 2 p.m.

Dale Elliott Jr: No Hard Feelings
Popular Jamaican-American comedian Dale Elliott Jr. is in the city for one night of hilarious comedy and unfiltered stories. He’s known for his online skits that consistently has millions of views. His show will talk about his immigrant experience, parents, life on the road and celebrity encounters. He’s also expected to bring out a special guest to surprise the audience. It all begins at 7 p.m.

Earth Day at Downsview Park
Bring your family and friends to the play zone at Downsview Park for its Earth Day celebration. It’s a free event that will have hands-on activities and opportunities to learn about the planet, such as how to reduce your environmental footprint. Activities include tree planting, invasive species management, and a guided nature walk, among others. The event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Intrigue at the Museum: A ROM Mystery Scavenger Hunt
Try your luck at solving a mystery scavenger hunt at the Royal Ontario Museum. You’ll work in teams, explore the museum’s galleries and gather clues in order to solve a mysterious murder. The mystery will bring attendees into a story of greed, pride, lust and revenge. Tickets are $47.50 and the game starts at 2 p.m.

Kensington Market ‘Taste the World’ Food Tour
Try foods from around the world at Kensington Market’s Tasty Tours. This tour will include both classic and new foods at the market from its Jamaican patties to its mouth-watering tacos. The tour encourages guests to experience everything the market has to offer, such as its vintage shops, graffiti and authentic eats. Tickets are $69 each and the tour is from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
