Events happening in Toronto this weekend: Dec. 15-17

It is almost Christmas weekend in Toronto but just before the final holiday showdown, we’re making sure you’re enjoying the most seasonal festivities the city has to offer.

This weekend, there’s a winter festival, a European food experience, holiday-themed shows and more. Here is what you can check out:

Friday, Dec. 15:

Black-owned Businesses Holiday Pop-Up Market

The PEACH community facility at Jane and Finch has organized a two-day Black-owned businesses holiday pop-up market at 127 Eddystone Avenue. It features 18 vendors selling a variety of hair, fashion, beauty products, and more. In addition, the event is also an essential item drive that will go towards the Toronto Refugee Crisis. The public can drop off used clothing, toiletries, sleeping bags, and books. The event is from 12 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 12 to 7 p.m. on Saturday.

101 Holiday Movie Moments

The Comedy Bar is presenting the one-act show, 101 Holiday Movie Moments. Directed by Carly Heffernan, the show pays homage to 101 famous moments from holiday classics, such as “Bah Humbug” to “Yippie-Ki-Yay.” Show times are 7 and 9 p.m.

Winter Blooms Festival

Visit the Winter Blooms Festival at the Toronto Botanical Garden from 4 to 8 p.m. The three-day event is an indoor/outdoor holiday experience that offers shopping, food and fun workshops for all ages. It’s free to attend and kicks off on Friday.

Saturday, Dec. 16:

Christmas Bird Count in High Park

High Park is inviting you and your family to join them on a free Christmas Bird Count on Saturday. Guests will go on a morning hike through the park to count and witness all winter birds. Afterwards, there will be discussions at the Nature Centre where you can enjoy hot chocolate, coffee, tea and tasty treats. The hike is from 9 to 11 a.m.

Enjoy, It’s From Europe!

Go on the ultimate European food and drink experience at STACKT market. The market, in conjunction with the European Union, is hosting the culinary journey, while offering exclusive charcuterie board workshops. There, you can sample authentic products from various countries across the European Union and learn to create your own charcuterie board. This event is free and is available until Dec. 17. It begins at noon and runs until 8 p.m.

Majid Jordan

Canadian R&B duo Majid Jordan is hitting the stage at HISTORY to perform their latest album, Good People. The duo is known for their popular songs “Something About You,” “Gave Your Love Away” and “Her,” among others. The singers have two back-to-back shows on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 17:

Feed the Joy Cooking Class with Dixon Hall

Spice up your cooking skills at a free cooking class at Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Services, led by local senior Georgia Nayyar. All Toronto residents of all ages are welcome to join the lesson and learn some new dishes to try out for the holidays. The class will pair several seniors from Dixon Hall with community members of varying ages and skill levels to cook together. The class starts promptly at noon and will end at 2 p.m.

Hypothetical Baby

Attend the world premiere of Hypothetical Baby, a production by the award-winning theatre artist and podcast creator Rachel Cairns. The play is about a woman’s unintended pregnancy that leads to a Christmas Eve abortion. It explores the challenges between one’s personal life, societal factors and existential considerations when deciding to become a parent. The show begins at 2 p.m. at the Tarragon Theatre.

Wonka’s Sweet Escape

In honour of the Wonka movie releasing on Friday, Yorkdale has set up an immersive activation called Wonka’s Sweet Escape. Shoppers can visit the Wonka storefront to take enchanting pictures, sign up for exclusive giveaways and receive a sweet surprise. The activation is available until Jan. 2, 2024.
