Events happening in Toronto this weekend: Jan. 19-21

It’s been a chilly week in Toronto but not to worry, we’ve brought the heat when it comes to events you can do this weekend!

We’re not letting the cold get in the way of great entertainment. This weekend, there’s comedy shows, a design festival, a DJ skate night, and kitty yoga, among other events. Here’s what you can check out:

Friday, Jan. 19:

Bear

Watch a captivating dance performance called Bear at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance at 8 p.m. The performance is described as “a meditative journey through the dreams, ideas, people and pathways that make up a life.” Tickets are $30 each.

Winners and Losers – Toronto’s Sports Histories at Myseum of Toronto

Witness iconic moments in Toronto’s sports history at Myseum of Toronto’s Winners & Losers: Toronto Sports Histories exhibition. The exhibition tells different stories from a range of sports zones from hockey, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, football and boxing. Admission is free and the exhibit is available until Mar. 9.

Celebrate National Popcorn Day with Cineplex & FREE Popcorn

Go see a movie and enjoy a free bag of popcorn! In honour of National Popcorn Day, Cineplex is giving away a free bag of popcorn for its Scene plus members all day long. All you need to do is purchase a movie ticket, show it at the concession stand and have them scan your membership card to receive the free small bag of popcorn.

Saturday, Jan. 20:

DJ Skate Nights at Evergreen Brick Works

Head to Evergreen Brick Works for its first DJ Skate Night of the season. DJ Skate Nights is a free, family friendly event that invites you to skate among the trees as the DJ spins your favorite tunes. Food, beverages and games will be available. It starts at 6 and ends at 10 p.m.

DesignTO Festival 2024

Attention art fanatics, the 2024 DesignTO Festival is back! This year features over 100 free exhibitions and installations from multi-faceted artists of different mediums. Themes include climate crisis and sustainability, technology, ethics and social justice, city building, and more. The festival is free and it’s happening in venues across the city.

Swipes Right: Back on the Apps

Have a laugh with The Second City! It’s comedy show “Swipes Right: Back on the Apps” is the perfect place to bring a partner, lover, spouse or even your single self for an evening of unique jokes and lots of laughter. Tickets range from $29 to $59 and the show is from 8 to 10 p.m at 1 York St.

Sunday, Jan. 21: 

Too Much Fun

Dan Rosen, known for Game of Crohn’s, is hosting a comedy show packed with some of the funniest comedians who have performed at the most popular festivals. Comedians include Reese Turner, Surer Qaly Deria, Jared Nathan and headliner Allie Pearse (Letterkenny, Just For Laughs). Tickets cost $20 to $25 and the show starts promptly at 8 p.m. at the Comedy Bar on 945 Bloor St. W.

Kitten Yoga (Kids-Friendly) by Yoga Kawa Toronto

Relax and spend time with some cute kitties at Kitty Yoga! This family friendly yoga class will have you getting your exercise, while also getting cuddles and kisses from adorable little kittens. The session is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and it’s happening at THAT Toronto Studio. Tickets are $48 each.

Nature Through a Lens: A Deep Dive Into High Park’s Wildlife

Learn about High Park’s wildlife by watching “Nature Through a Lens: A Deep Dive Into High Park’s Wildlife” at the High Park Nature Centre. The presentation includes photos telling a story about different species and animals, big and small. Tickets are on a pay-what-you-can basis and the show is from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
