Torontonians are reacting after longtime city councillor Jaye Robinson has died.
Her office released a statement Friday morning saying she passed away Thursday night “in the presence of her family.”
“Jaye was a dedicated public servant who leaves a lasting legacy in Toronto, the city she loved. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and colleagues at City Hall,” the statement reads.
Her office says a celebration of life will be held in her honour and more details will be released in the coming days.
Robinson was first elected in 2010 and represented Don Valley West for nearly 14 years. During her time, she served as Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission and Chair of the Public Works & Infrastructure Committee.
“We are honoured to have had the opportunity to work with her,” the statement continues.
Mayor Olivia Chow reacted on Twitter saying, “She was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about her constituents and Toronto. Her voice will be dearly missed.”
Chow added that flags will be flown at half-mast and the Toronto sign will be dimmed Friday evening. A condolence book will also be available for residents to sign and share their memories and well wishes for Robinson’s family.
Torontonians, including fellow councillors, are reacting to the news.
